Poetry

By Robin Roberts

All You Need Is Inspiration

Tomorrow I will write a song
And I hope it won't be long
I wanted to write it yesterday
Instead I went on my way.

A paperback writer I wanted to be
But instant karma escaped me
I worked at it eight days a week
But golden slumbers made it meek.

But now it's getting better every day
As I'm sitting here on Blue Jay Way
I'm learning like dreamers do
The simple things like one and one is two.

Mean Mr. Mustard came into my life
Caused me misery and so much strife
It was then that I went down the long and winding road
He's a nowhere man, not a prince but a toad.

Then the Sun King looked my way
A hard day's night turned into a sunny day
He inspired me to carry that weight
Love is the answer, there's no need to wait.

I'm now on that magical mystery tour
Where it'll lead, I will not know for sure
Maybe it'll take me here there and everywhere
Or maybe I'll cry instead, who'll wipe my tear?

Will we be friends when we're sixty-four?
Or will this all be in vain some more
Will we be friends, I get no reply
Tell me why I cry when you say goodbye.

I want to tell you that I've written in the past
I hope you love me do and that it'll last
But I should have known better that it wouldn't sell
When you live in a world without love it's hell.

Tomorrow never knows, this is true
We can work it out and all I've got to do
Is hope someone will let it be
And like this poem and are not bad to me.

And your bird can sing, no she can't
But she can write and she can rant
Ask me why and I'll tell you this
And I'll seal it with a kiss
I'll follow the sun wherever it may lead me
I'll follow my dreams and you won't see me.

Two of Them

Two of them playing music
Playing music all day long
John and George singing something
No recording, they left it at home.

They're leaving their home
They're leaving their home
They're leaving home.

You and I have memories
Longer than the time they spent as superstars.

Two of them playing guitars
Writing music in my mind
John and George lasting always
Lasting always until the end.

They're leaving their home
They're leaving their home
They're leaving home.

Two of them waving to us
Singing from above the sun
John and George chasing rainbows
They're just trying to find that way back home.

They're coming back home.
They're coming back home
They've arrived home.

John

That time on a cold day in December
All those years ago
When a shot heard round the world was heard
And to our lives, dealt a tremendous blow.

The man was only 40, 1980 was the year
A madman came along and destroyed it all
He killed our John, he filled us with fear
We mourned the loss with Ringo, George and Paul.

This man was part of a rock and roll band
Part of a foursome the world had never before seen
They weren't just any group you understand
They were the best, another one like them has never been.

They rocked our lives, they rocked our world
They turned the rock and watched it roll
Their songs filled our hearts with joy unfurled
We dreamed of a reunion, all things untold.

But John is gone, George now too
A reunion we will never see
We miss them so, our hearts are blue
A reunion is just not to be.

We wonder if we'll ever lose the pain
Hearing a song played, bringing back the tears
We think of that awful day again
The time melts away, as do the years.

The day John died is in the past
But the memories will always last
The day George died, our dreams died too
But we will always have the music
This will remain forever true.

About the Author

Robin Roberts is 43 years old and has been a Beatles fan her whole life, since she was little girl.  Her favorite Beatle has always been John although she does love them all, of course.  She is the mother of two girls, ages 13 and 12.  She volunteers for many sporting events and community events, and she is also a Girl Scout troop leader and has been for six years.

She works as a secretary but has always loved to write.  She has had short stories, articles and poetry published in various children's magazines in the past, and just recently had some poetry, a couple of articles and song parodies (all Beatles related) published in various Beatles magazines.  Beatlezine is doing a cover story on her song parodies in an upcoming issue and she is very excited about that.
